A Few Minutes to Zen with Rikki Alrutz

HAPPY UP!  This week, try a pose known to encourage the production of endorphins (chemicals released in our bodies that lead to a decreased sense of pain and stress).

The Crescent Lunge Pose, as well as other backbend postures, boost the body’s natural feel good happy-inducing endorphins!

To find this Happy State*:

  1. Step one foot forward, while the other goes back.

  2. Bend your front leg to a 90-degree angle; keep your back heel off the ground while the leg remains long.

  3. Raise your arms above your head, keeping your palms facing each other.

  4. Reach up, look up.  Open your chest, keep your hips square, belly supported, and smile at the beautiful sky above you.

  5. Hold pose for up to 1 minute.

  6. Repeat on other side.

Benefits include: combating stress, lifting your mood, increasing energy, and reducing fatigue.

*If you have any spine, knee, or heart problems, contact your doctor before trying this pose.
